Frederik and Laura’s wedding

A quick overview of the weekend’s events. We have two very competent and kind ceremoniemeesters, one for Frederik’s side, Anders Madsen, and one for Laura’s, Renate Keijser. If you have any questions regarding any of the below, please ask them at ceremoniemeesters.laura.frederik@gmail.com.

What are ceremoniemeesters? A ceremoniemeester, or Master of Ceremonies, is a Dutch tradition. They help guide the day and keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. They coordinate the schedule, help guests know where to be and when, and make sure each part of the celebration flows from one moment to the next.

Wedding Day Timeline

  • 14:30 – 15:00 arrival of guests
  • 15:00 – 16:00 ceremony
  • 16:00 – 18:00 borrel (drinks and snacks)
  • 18:00 – 20:30 dinner
  • 20:30 – 00:00 party
  • The following day August 16th, the plan is that we meet up at breakfast at ML Hotel in Haarlem. Information about this will follow later.

Accommodation

We’ve arranged preferred rates at ML Hotel for the wedding weekend. While each guest covers their own room cost, we’ve negotiated a special discount to make your stay more affordable. Interested? Please let the ceremoniemeesters know at ceremoniemeesters.laura.frederik@gmail.com

Plan accommodation in good time – it is “busy season”, so expect it to fill up reasonably early.

Transportation

Flying in

  • Schiphol/Amsterdam is the nearest airport.
  • To get from Schiphol to Haarlem, take a train to Amsterdam Sloterdijk and change for a train to Haarlem.
  • The most reliable route planners/schedulers are the 9292 and NS apps.
  • To pay for the train ride, simply use any payment card at the ticket gates.

Driving to Elswout

Public transportation

  • Uber or Taxi takes 20min from Haarlem. Bus stops are unfortunately far from the Orangerie (~20min walk).
  • For transportation from Orangerie Elswout to Haarlem at the end of the night, we are planning on organising a shuttle. More information about this will follow later.

Dress code tips

Dress code: formal attire

We kindly request formal attire for our celebration. Think about cocktail dresses (knee-length or longer), midi or floor-length dresses, elegant jumpsuits, or formal pantsuits. Suits or dress pants with jackets are preferred.

The Orangerie is about a 5 min walk from the parking lot via gravel paths and cobblestone. Please plan your footwear accordingly.

Wedding registry

While we appreciate the tradition of giving a gift to the wedding couple, your attendance and effort is the greatest gift at our wedding. If you still wish to give use an extra gift, you can find our wedding registry here: https://gowish.com/s/em27uj.

Miscellaneous

  • Please do not throw rice, oats, or confetti at the couple after the ceremony.
  • If you want to give a speech or other entertainment, please let the ceremoniemeesters know. You can give a speech either Danish, Dutch, or English, but we would like it written in all three languages to distribute among the guests to ensure everybody can follow along. The ceremoniemeesters can be helpful with translation to the language(s) you don’t know but please provide it in the languages you do know.
